 Employment with the Decatur Public Schools is contingent upon verification of your employment eligibility, which will be determined after you complete our new employee process. This includes a physical exam, tuberculosis test, a fingerprint background check, and submission of required documentation, all described in further detail below. Human Resources will also validate that you meet the required qualifications for the position as well as your eligibility to work in the United States.

Out-of-State Information for Applicants seeking Illinois certification


STEP 2: Outside Services

Fingerprinting

All positions in DPS61, including contractors, require a finger print-based criminal history records check. Public Act 93-909 amended Sections 10-21.9* and 34-18.5 of the Illinois School Code [105 ILCS 5/10-21.9; 105 ILCS 5/34-18.5] to require school districts to perform a fingerprint-based criminal history records check (also referred to as a "background check") on all certified and non-certified applicants for employment with a school district. The criminal history records check must be initiated prior to employment.

You must contact Bushue Human Resources Services, Inc. at (217) 342-3042 or toll free at (877) 342-3042 to schedule your fingerprinting. You cannot begin work until this process has been initiated!

Employee TB/Physical Examination

As a condition of employment in the Decatur Public School District you must pass an examination to determine that you are in good health and free of tuberculosis.
 
Illinois School Code - TB/Physical    (105 ILCS 5/24-5) (from Ch. 122, par. 24-5)  Physical fitness and professional growth. School boards shall require of new employees evidence of physical fitness to perform duties assigned and freedom from communicable disease, including tuberculosis. Such evidence shall consist of a physical examination and a tuberculin skin test and, if appropriate, an x-ray, made by a physician licensed in Illinois or any other state to practice medicine and surgery in all its branches, an advanced practice nurse who has a written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician that authorizes the advanced practice nurse to perform health examinations, or a physician assistant who has been delegated the authority to perform health examinations by his or her supervising physician not more than 90 days preceding time of presentation to the board and cost of such examination shall rest with the employee. The board may from time to time require an examination of any employee by a physician licensed in Illinois to practice medicine and surgery in all its branches, an advanced practice nurse who has a written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician that authorizes the advanced practice nurse to perform health examinations, or a physician assistant who has been delegated the authority to perform health examinations by his or her supervising physician and shall pay the expenses thereof from school funds. School boards may require teachers in their employ to furnish from time to time evidence of continued professional growth.

STEP 3: Online Training

Department of Children and Family Services

Illinois law mandates that employees must make reports if they have reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect. Mandated reporters employed at DPS61 include: Registered and licensed practical nurses in the schools; teachers; school personnel, educational advocates assigned to a child pursuant to the School Code; truant officers; child care workers; social workers and assistants working under the direct supervision of a psychologist.

You must provide proof, prior to your first day of work, that you have successfully completed the DCFS Mandated Reporter Training. Please print the confirmation that you successfully completed the training and return it to the Human Resources office. This must be done prior to your first day of work.

Bloodborne Pathogens

Decatur Public Schools is committed to providing a safe and healthful work environment for our entire staff. In pursuit of this goal, all employees annually review the Bloodborne Pathogens exposure control plan (ECP) to eliminate or minimize occupational exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens in accordance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.1030. As a new employee, you must create a log on and complete the BBP training.

You must provide proof, prior to your first day of work, that you have successfully completed the Bloodborne Pathogens training. Please print the confirmation that you successfully completed the training and return it to the Human Resources office. This must be done prior to your first day of work.
