My family moved to Chicago from Poland when I was very young, but I still hold strong ties to my heritage. Besides speaking the language, I continue to cook Polish meals, read Polish books, and visit my family and friends who still live there.
I found my passion for teaching when I became a tutor in high school. Although I enjoyed playing volleyball and soccer, it became evident fairly quickly that I was more skilled in academics than athletics. My favorite class was English, so it felt natural to pursue my major in English. After one year at Marquette University, I realized that I belonged at a larger institution, so I transferred to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There I was exposed to many opportunities such as interning inside various classrooms, finding my current partner, working at the coolest costume shop, and studying abroad.
After graduation, I decided to stay in central Illinois. Although Champaign was great, we became homeowners here. My two adorable pit bulls named Smokey and Kozmo love their new yard and definitely approve of the move. I am excited and look forward to my new journey in Decatur and at MacArthur High School!
