    Absence, Tardies, and Attendance

    Absence Notification

A student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) must: (1) upon their child’s enrollment, provide telephone numbers to the Building Principal and update them as necessary, and (2) authorize all absences and notify the school in advance or at the time of the child’s absence.

If a student is absent without prior authorization by the parent(s)/guardian(s), the attendance secretary shall make a reasonable effort to notify the parent(s)/guardian(s) of their child’s absence within 2 hours after the first class by telephoning the numbers given.

The school depends upon the parent to have the child at school punctually and regularly except for reasons of illness.

Send a note to the teacher upon his/her return confirming the date(s) and reason for the absence. If no contact is made by parent or school, a note will be required to excuse the absence.

The State of Illinois has recently clarified attendance procedures for all schools. Students arriving after 7:40 and before 7:56 AM will be counted tardy. This results in students being counted absent (not tardy) if they arrive at school after 7:56 AM. We appreciate you for adjusting doctor/dentist appointments and other necessary procedures to help comply, as our state aid is based on daily attendance counts.
