Mrs. Samonds

I'm Heather Samonds and I am excited for my first year at John's Hill Magnet School. This is my fifth year teaching. I spent the last four years at Stephen Decatur Middle School teaching 8th grade math and algebra. I am very passionate about math education and breaking down concepts to their basics. In science, I love being able to explain why the things we see in our everyday world work the way they do!

I am originally from Sullivan, IL where I graduate in 2002. I spent a year at Western Illinois University studying law enforcement followed by 2 years at Lake Land College studying radio and TV broadcasting. I took a break from school and entered the work force until I could find my passion. through work with the Junior Achievement program, I discovered that was teaching, specifically with middle school students. I returned to Lake Land in 2009 and earned my Associate degree in elementary education. I then transfered to Eastern Illinois University and earned my Bachleor in elementary education with middle school endorsments in math, science, and language arts. I am currently live with my husband Brett, my son Davey, and our three fish.
