Ms. Bellinger

Hello! I teach 7th and 8th grade Language Arts in Room 100 at JHMS. I have been teaching for fifteen years, with the 2016-2017 school year being my first at DPS. I was born and raised in Decatur and graduated from Maroa-Forsyth High School. After high school, I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and earned my bachelor degree in English. After finally deciding I wanted to be an English teacher, I attended Millikin University to add a teaching certification to my degree. I currently live in Decatur with my two children, Jolie and Parker; my super puppy Stella, and my crazy kitten Simba.

About Language Arts

7th and 8th grade Language Arts both focus on the building of skills in writing and reading. In 7th grade, students will write narrative essays, argumentative essays, and will read a variety of short stories, as well as fiction and non-fiction excerpts.  In 8th grade, students will write narrative essays, argumentative research essays, and will read a variety of fiction and non-fiction literature. While both classes will focus on written expression as well as reading, 8th grade Language Arts has an emphasis on literary analysis. Both 7th and 8th grade Language Arts classes utilize an arts-integrated format.
