I have been a coach and  science teacher in Decatur Public Schools since 1980.  I was with Mound Middle school for most of my career.  When that building closed, I taught at Eisenhower.  It is with great pleasure that I transferred to Johns Hill Magnet School  to begin the third and final phase of my career as a middle school science teacher again.  I am excited to be back at the middle school level as it is an age I truly enjoy teaching.

At Johns Hill I also coach the First Lego League team with Mr. Todd Garner.  We are  are building quite a tradition at Johns Hill.  In 2012 our team captured the Coolest Robot award, the Judges Choice Award and First Place in robot Performance.   In 2013, the team repeated as champions in the Robot Competition and won First Place in the Project category with a PERFECT score!  As of 2017 the team has won 8 first place Regional Awards, Qualified for State twice and won 1 first place award at State.  We are so proud of our First Lego League program here at Johns HIll and we hope this tradition of excellance continues.

I have been blessed in my career to be able to travel and work with some great people and industries (CAT, ADM).  These relationships have allowed me to grow as an educator and individual.  I have done some things I never thought I would:  presented at NSTA, crawled through some really narrow pipes, explored caves and mines, investigated bat habitats, hiked in deserts and ancient ruins, zip-lined through forests, swam with dolphins and manatees, studied ocean currents and wave patterns, snorkeled in coral reefs, kayaked with sharks, and more.

As you can see, I am an avid Cardinals fan and I was extremely fortunate to be able to see some incredible playoff games as well as witness one of the most controverial endings to a World Series game ever recorded in history.I also enjoy watching the Fighting Illini, NCAA basketball and the St. Louis Blues.  In my spare time I like to read and spend time with my family -which will include my first grandchild in September 2017.

In every adventure, I found something that I can bring back to my classroom.  It is my hope that I can share some of what I learned with my students.  It is also my hope and my desire to help my students achieve to to the best of their ability.  That said, it the RESPONSIBILITY of all students to give me their best effort and it the RESPONSIBILITY of all students to come focused and ready to go.
