    Absence, Tardies, and Attendance

    Absence Notification

A student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) must: (1) upon their child’s enrollment, provide telephone numbers to the Building Principal and update them as necessary, and (2) authorize all absences and notify the school in advance or at the time of the child’s absence.

If a student is absent without prior authorization by the parent(s)/guardian(s), the attendance secretary shall make a reasonable effort to notify the parent(s)/guardian(s) of their child’s absence within 2 hours after the first class by telephoning the numbers given.

The school depends upon the parents to have the child at school punctually and regularly except for reasons of illness.

Send a note to the teacher upon his/her return confirming the date(s) and reason for the absence. If no contact is made by parents or school, a note will be required to excuse the absence.

DID YOU KNOWa truant, as defined in Section 26-2a of the School Code [105 ILCS 5/26-2a] as a child subject to compulsory school attendance and who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for more than 1% but less than 5% of the past 180 school days?

A chronic or habitual truant is absent without valid cause from such attendance for 5% or more of the previous 180 regular attendance days.

Tardies to School:  When a student comes to school after the beginning bell rings (7:40 AM), they will be entered into Skyward as a Tardy (T) with the time they entered school. This coding removes the minutes from the total minutes that a student has attended.

If a student gets to school later than 50 minutes after the beginning bell rings (8:30), they will be entered as Absent (E or U) with the correct time that they entered school. This coding also removes the minutes from the total minutes that student has attended.

    Tardy:  0-50 minutes

    Unexcused/Excused:  51 minutes and beyond

Leaving Early:  Unexcused/Excused with the time the student left the building.

NOTE:  Total minutes are impacted and used to calculate days to identify truancy concerns.

We appreciate you for adjusting doctor/dentist appointments and other necessary procedures to help comply, as our state aid is based on daily attendance counts.
