Mrs. Deborah Rapson
Deborah Rapson is a middle school teacher at Dennis Lab School. She teaches Project Based Learning and 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies. Ms. Rapson was born in Decatur; she went to Johns Hill and graduated from MacArthur in 2008. She majored in History and Secondary Education at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and graduated in 2013 with endorsements in Social Studies, Language Arts, and Science. She has been teaching in Decatur Public Schools since 2013 and has been at Dennis since 2016. Ms. Rapson also coaches the First Lego League team at Dennis.
Ms. Rapson enjoys computer games, board games, and spending time with her family. Her brother, Ben, is the Volunteer and Education Coordinator at Scovill Zoo. Her sister, Grace Frazier, is a pharmacist and has three children, Gabriel, Faye, and Leon, and lives in Mt. Zion with her husband, Jacob. Ms. Rapson also enjoys going to Fairview Park and Rock Springs bike trails to walk her dog, Padfoot.
Ms. Rapson loves teaching middle school because of their excitement and passion for learning and new experiences. Ms. Rapson enjoys project-based learning where students have voice and choice and learn 21st century skills. In Language Arts, Ms. Rapson uses small group instruction to differentiate learning for each student. It is her goal that every student leaves Dennis with a love of reading and writing. In Social Studies, Ms. Rapson hopes to prepare students to be global citizens who will make a positive impact on their community, country, and the world.
