Degrees and Certifications:
B.M. Music Education-Vocal Emphasis Millikin University
Hello! My name is Ms. Faulkner and I am the music teacher at Harris Elementary. I graduated from Millikin University with a degree in Music Education-Vocal Emphasis, and currently live in Champaign, IL. I have two cats, and enjoy learning more about music and education, hiking and exploring, reading, and volunteering.
This year in music, students will be learning and growing more than ever! Each lesson will focus on specific grade level skills, combined with an element of student creation. Ideas that once only lived in students' imaginations will be brought to life! Overall, I believe that music should be an active experience that combines singing, speaking, playing, composing, improvising, creating, dancing, reading, and writing.
Why Active Music Making?
Active music making gives children a chance to develop creativity and problem solving skills that extend far beyond the music classroom. Imitation, experimentation, and personal expression occur naturally as students become more confident in their own musical ideas, and in themselves. Actively making music gives each student a voice, and teaches students how to think outside of the box. Through this process, each child can be part of a team, be creative, and find success in music.
