David Barista is an artist and educator from Palos Heights, IL who currently lives and works in Decatur, IL. Barista graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA with an emphasis in art education. Barista works in a variety of media including painting, drawing, collage, and printmaking, and he has exhibited his artwork across the Chicagoland area. Barista’s artwork depicts images from popular culture and daily life with the aim and intention to celebrate and chronicle shared experiences. "Through the use of particular motifs in my work, I hope to encode, decode, and then discover meaning and knowledge about myself and the world." Since 2009, Barista has implemented culturally responsive art pedagogy during his years of teaching with various schools throughout Chicagoland and the state of Illinois. Barista has worked with Decatur Public Schools since 2016 and with Eisenhower High School since 2017. At Eisenhower High School, Barista teaches courses including Intro to Art, Drawing, Painting, Media, Photography, Design and Materials, and Printmaking.
