Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Dan Lynch, Principal

I am humbled and blessed to be the Principal at Dennis Lab School.

Throughout my 31 years working in the educational field, at all level from elementary to college, I have never taken on a new assignment or career change unless I felt led to do so. Our move two years ago to Decatur and to Dennis Lab was no different. The idea of the progressive, out-of-the-box thinking that takes place at Dennis, both by the staff and students through Project Based Learning, excites me beyond measure. An educational atmosphere where children have the freedom to be creative, innovative, and take a leadership role in their education, all the while learning how to make their school and community the best possible place is what Dennis has been about, and under my leadership will continue to focus on. As part of the districts strategic plan, we have moved to a two campuses configuration

Prior to coming to Dennis, I was an Assistant Director of Admissions at Indiana State University for four years, taught junior high and high school social studies for 23 years in Paris, Illinois, many of which included coaching multiple sports for 19 years and serving as the drama director for thirteen. Most recently, I served as the Principal at Crestwood Elementary School also in Paris. I am not just an educator, however, I am also a husband, a father to three grown sons, and grandfather to four amazing children. I think it is important that the Dennis community know that my life experiences are similar to some of those of our community. The only son of a single mother, who through great sacrifice, instilled in me, with the help of grandparents and educators, that my life circumstances did not define me unless I allowed them to. My mother said often in this regard, “You can become it, or you can overcome it”. I come to all experiences with my eyes and most importantly my heart wide open. I believe at my core in loving children first; then teaching them. It is through this ideal that we will continue to enhance the culture of Dennis School.

I want everyone to know that each child is my number one priority. My goal is for all Dennis Lab students to love their school, love learning, and to see it as a safe place where they can take academic risks and find their voice. We all different experiences. It is through these diversified experiences that makes us whole. I promise to support and promote these differences, and make our students understand that as a school, as a community, as a country, and as a planet that there is much more that unites us than divides us.

My door is always open to you and your families. I welcome your thoughts, questions, and concerns prior to and during the school year. I look forward to meeting all of you, and continuing in our collective journey to make Dennis Lab School unique and amazing.  Feel free to contact me at
