Welcome to Decatur Public School District!

Hello and welcome to the Decatur Public School family,

As you begin your new journey with us, I want you to know that I am truly honored to be your Superintendent.  There are so many great things taking place at DPS and I’m glad you have joined our team. I am deeply excited for you to be part of the investment in our students along with the Board of Education, Administrative team, teachers, staff, parents, students, and the community, to build a strong foundation for our future.

Our District was established in 1865 and is the 26th largest school district in the state of Illinois, serving approximately 9,000 students. Our buildings consist of one pre-kindergarten/early learning center, eleven K-6 elementary schools, four K-8 schools, two middle schools, two high schools, and an alternative education program. Five of our facilities are magnet schools, including a Pre-K to 8th-grade Montessori school. Families have the option to apply to schools of choice: STEM Academy, a candidate International Baccalaureate school and a fine arts program.

As you begin establishing new relationships within the DPS family, you will soon understand, we all work together to be good stewards of the resources our community has to offer for the benefit of our students.  Together we will meet all new challenges and keep Decatur Public Schools a “Destination District.”
