Ms. Michelle Bonebrake
I’m Ms. Michelle Bonebrake, the Principal of Johns Hill Magnet School. Previously, I served as the Assistant Principal here for 14 years before assuming the principal role in the 2023-2024 school year. Additionally, I have doubled as the Athletic Director for two years. My experience in these roles, along with my teaching background, enables me to effectively build our team of teacher leaders.
I began my career in the educational field after graduating from Eastern Illinois University in 1992. Over the years, I have worked in various schools, from a small rural school with 200 students to the local Junior College in our area. I work closely with staff members on curriculum processes, evaluation standards, and compliance issues. Furthermore, I have collaborated with all stakeholders on master scheduling issues and developed health and safety policies for our building. I have also worked with union leadership to implement new contract language following a successor agreement. The lead negotiator for the union is a teacher in my building, and we work closely to ensure all stakeholders understand the new contract language.
I was the first member of my family to graduate from college, earning a full athletic scholarship for my first two years. Throughout my career, I have continued my education, earning a Master’s degree while still teaching and raising a family. I believe that today’s schools must develop positive attitudes and instill personal integrity in students. The cultural diversity of our society requires the ability to be open-minded, respectful, and understanding.
As an administrator, I sincerely and honestly guarantee that I will uphold the strong work ethic and resilient determination necessary to foster an environment conducive to student learning and personal growth. By being flexible, open-minded, and down-to-earth, my students and staff will see that I am a caring and compassionate person who wants them to succeed. With this in mind, my personal goal is to be an administrator that students and staff remember as someone who truly listened to concerns and cared about their well-being.
Professionally yours,
Ms. Michelle Bonebrake
