On August 21, 2017, for the first time since 1918, a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the United States.  Decatur Public School District #61 is planning a viewing opportunity to allow students to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event. The District has been planning to make this event a unique learning experience for our students. If you DO NOT want your child to particpate in outdoor viewing activities planned for August 21st for the eclipse, please sign and return the OPT-OUT FORM to your school office.

Our maintenance department is diligently working to remediate the water sources in our district tat were tested last spring and had a lab test result greater than 5 ppb of lead content. The district is committed to ensuring all water sources are compliant with the updated water quality standards.

We are pleased to share fourteen water fountains across the district have new cooling units or new parts. Sinks in classrooms and offices have new faucets and are fully operational in the following buildings: Baum, Durfee, Franklin, Garfield, Oak Grove, Parsons and Stevenson. The remaining buildings with affected water sources, have parts on order and are expected to arrive prior to the first day of school. Our goal is to have all affected sources remediated by the first week of school. Areas that have not been addressed will remain offline until work has been completed. Additionally, all schools will have an ample supply of drinking water for all building occupants.

For an update on the water project, visit our website www.dps61.org/schoolwater.
