Step 1: Submit an Application
Make sure you attach the following materials with your application, as applicable/required for the position:
- Cover Letter
- Resume
- Transcripts from all colleges and universities (as applicable; unofficial copies accepted)
- Three current letters of professional reference (preferred, not required)
- Copy of current Illinois licensure (as applicable) — if you do not have current Illinois licensure, please send a statement to inform us of your progress toward licensure. Contact the Illinois State Board of Education for further information regarding licensure. If you have a license from another state, please provide us with a copy.
Applications are accepted year-round for all positions and are maintained for one year. Please complete the application in full, including work history and reference sections. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Step 2: Application Review & Interview Scheduling
When a vacancy occurs, applications are reviewed to determine if the applicant meets the requirements for the designated position. Interviews are then scheduled for applicants who best meet the qualifications of the position. You will be contacted at the email address you used to apply if you are offered an interview for an open position.
Step 3: Appointment to a Position
Appointment to a position is made after a candidate has verbally accepted a contract offer, holds a current Illinois license (as applicable), and has passed a background check. Salary placement is based upon verification of prior years' experience and receipt of official transcripts (as applicable). All DPS staff are employed by official action of the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent.
