Developing a Vision for the Future of DPS

  • Decatur Public Schools is committed to enhancing educational success for our district through a comprehensive strategic planning and master facility plan. Beginning in October 2024, a dedicated committee—comprising students, staff, community partners, educational collaborators, and business leaders—will work collaboratively to craft a road map that addresses the needs and aspirations of the Decatur school community. This inclusive stakeholder group will ensure that all voices are heard and valued. In May 2025, the strategic plan and master facility development planning team will bring a final recommendation to be presented to the Board of Education.

Together, we are shaping a brighter future for our school community, the staff, and students of District #61. View the list of Committee Members.

Letter to the Roadmap 2030 Committee 03/20/25

  • Roadmap 2030,

On behalf of the Board of Education (BOE), I first want to thank you for your participation and dedication to the DPS61 Strategic and Master Facility Planning process.  This is not an easy task, and I think we all have a better understanding of just how "messy" this process really is.  At our Tuesday, March 18th meeting, we received an update of the committee's progress.  The presentation, board discussion and a video recording of the information is now posted to the web site at- https://www.dps61.org/roadmap2030 (click on March 18, 2025 Board Meeting Update).

After much discussion following the presentation, the BOE would like to take a "temporary pause" in the process.  With the upcoming BOE elections in early April, we believe the timing will be more appropriate and there will be greater "ownership" of these decisions if the new Board formally takes action.  As we understand it, all of the work and momentum thus far has led us to solid working drafts of the three project deliverables:  1.) Strategic Plan on a Page; 2. Balanced Scorecard; and 3.) Master Facility Plan.

Once the new board is seated and brought up to speed of where we are in the process, we will resume the work.  The time you’ve invested has been invaluable to our District and community.  The BOE does not want to rush the process or set artificial timelines that aren’t in alignment with bringing the best recommendations forward.  When the committee is ready, we will schedule the formal presentation of the final recommendations.

The Board of Education is grateful for your participation, perseverance and common interest in improving District #61.

    Bill Clevenger,

    President, Board of Education

    Decatur Public School District #61
